ZOMBIEMAN ZERO FLASHBACK COMIC

Here's the cover to the fake 1977 Bronze Age ZOMBIEMAN ZERO comic I did for the upcoming (Alternate Press Expo) XOMIX COMIX FREEBEE promo book me and Javier Hernandez are putting together. It sure was fun doing a Bronze Age spin on ZOMBIEMAN ZERO. And I'm sure everybody will see the inspiration for this cover comes from CAPTAIN AMERICA issue 193(when Jack Kirby returned to the book... "MADBOMB" IT CAN DESTROY THE WORLD!-

Cartoonistas Art Show at Geeks!

The CARTOONISTAS had their first official event at Geeks Comics shop in Whittier over the 4th of July weekend. Very Cool Stuff! Who are the Cartoonistas you may ask? Think the original DEFENDERS only instead of superheroes they're artists, each with their own superartist power! There are comic artists, fine artists, animators, graphic artists, writers, comicstrip artists... the whole smorgasbord! Each member strong in their own individual art style, but able to organize when the situation calls for it, to form the CARTOONISTAS!

Art in all its forms can be a very solitary activity. So it's really cool when you can get together and share ideas and experiences with someone who's been there and done that... And learn and get inspired by people with totally different life experiences, people who've been where you've never been and done what you've never done.

In my opinion, it's all about keeping the faith, being an artist, living as an artist and experiencing life as an artist. An artist being someone who sees the beauty in life. Someone who creates and shares a bit of him\herself with others. Someone who has something sincere to say whatever it may be, and has the courage to say it in some way shape or form.

I tell ya it's not easy, and it's not going to get any easier especially with the state our society is in... But I think we've got to keep the faith and be artists in life. And the Cartoonistas are celebrating that...

SUPERMARKET at Meltdown Los Angeles

That was really cool! SUPERMARKET is a quarterly indie comics show held at Meltdown Comics in Los Angeles. Jessica does a great job organizing and running it. It's really nice having a venue where indie publishers can get together and share their work and the fact that Jess is doing this quarterly is just so cool. The Los Angeles mini/indie comic presence is strong, what with guys like Javier Hernandez (El Muerto), Mike Aushenker(El Gato) , Jose Cabrara(Crying Macho Man), and gals like Bernyce Talley (Nubian Queen) and there's Rafael Navarro(He won a freakin' emmy!) Mike Wellman, and ... heck I don't want to leave anybody out so just check out the supermarket site for more info

http://www.meltcomics.com/supermarketla/

There's a lot of really talented and skilled people makin' a lot of amazing stuff in the comics media right now. Don't get me wrong, I check out the mainstream stuff too, like KICK ASS (not bad...) Brian Hitch's super realistic (lots of photo ref... kinda like Paul Gulacy on Master of Kung Fu) books, the Ultimates and now Fantastic Four, Captain America (I dig the Winter Soldier... kinda like Buckler's Deathlok. Deathlok was the dark version of Cap in the '70s, and this Bucky/Deathlok is the modern version of Cap in the '00s. It's all good, and don't get me started on how fantastic the Bronze age of comics was, I could go on for ages! But I'm just saying that the indie scene is LEGIT now at this time here in Los Angeles (and surrounding areas!) and it's worth exposure... Thanks Jess for Supermarket and Gaston at Meltdown too, that dude is a true comics medium Medium!

THE DEVIL HAS A FUNNY LAUGH

THE DEVIL HAS A FUNNY LAUGH is ready to move out! This one's a comic book formatted graphic with 62 pages. It's black and white with a glossy heavyweight cover. It's got mature subject matter so it's intended for Mature audiences. Here's the synopsis:

The DEVIL HAS A FUNNY LAUGH is the story of a guy looking for a date in a post-apocalyptic world where free will is nonexistent and people are herded as cattle. It's easy to resist a destructively oppressive police state that controls every man, woman, and child with deadly mind-numbing radio transmissions broadcast directly into your brain. The tough part is getting a girl to go out with you!

Comic Pulp Vol. 1 is good to go!

I just finished putting together more copies of COMIC PULP VOL. 1, and now I'm getting ready to send out comp copies to indie friendly stores across the country.
COMIC PULP VOL. 1 is a 120 pg squarebound digest-sized graphic compiling the four -issue BILLY COLE series I did for the CULT PRESS back in 1994.

The CULT PRESS was very cool... Robert, Tommy, and Jesse. Everybody has gone on to bigger things since, but I'll always be grateful for them letting me be a part of it all and for them letting me get BILLY COLE out there!
