Nothing like making a Mini to grow some hair on your chest!

If you're a dude that is, If your a lady it'll make the hair on your head full bodied and flowing! Apologies, just being silly! But seriously, I just finished making a mini-comic for the Monster Mini Challenge put on by Marshall Camplex, and it was really fun! We all made minis and then mailed them to each other. I first started making my own minis years and years ago, the first one being when I was like 7 yrs old maybe. So I really feel a connection to it. It reminds me why I'm an artist, and why I do what I do. So, if you haven't recently, and you have the time... Make a mini and give it a home!

Boxing up the Zombieman Zero Painted Box Edition!

Yay! I sold out of my ZombieMan Zero Painted Box Edition! I did 4 editions this time around, and painted up some really cool Boxes! I got the idea of doing a boxed edition from buying Javier Hernandez's COMACON limited boxed edition back in November. And it still sits proudly on my shelf... Me and Jav have had long conversations about comics, makin' comics, marketing comics, merchandising comics, heck, I think I'll give him a call today! Custom painting the boxes added more labor but also a great opportunity to really personalize the work for people...
Here's the pics of my illustrated Zombieman Zero boxed editions. Final Verdict for this project: Win!

Character Portraits...

Sometimes you have to let loose.  It's good for you and good for your art.  I'm lettin' loose by doing large (for me that is!) 18" by 24" painted portraits of some of my comic characters.  I'm not focusing on reproduction, or formatting or how I would sell them, I'm just focused on making these portraits look the way I want them to look.  And I'm digging the way they're turning out.  Like I said, it's good to let loose and sometimes it's good to be selfish and do your art for yourself!  Heck, you deserve it!

This one's not quite ready to come out of the oven, but I can smell it bakin! YUM!

Drawing from Life at LIVE events!

I attended a local Pro Wrestling Guerilla live event and had a great time watching some awesome indie Wrestling!  I also made the most of it by bringing my sketchbook and wedge point sharpie and did some gestures of the wrestlers as well as some drawing during the intermission.  With the loud Metal music in the background and pounding in the ring and roar of the crowds, I tell you, the pen felt like it was literally drawing by itself!  Awesome feeling being totally immersed in the moment!

Spring Craft Fair Fun!

I had a great time at the local Spring Craft Faire!  I'm not gonna lie, it was a slow show, with not alot of people going through.  Sales were light, BUT I made some awesome sketches and made quite a few people happy with 'em!  Ted Convention Tip of the Day:  Make the best of every Convention Situation!

Busting OUT with a BUST!

It's great to try something new, and making a ZOMBIE ROBOT out of a styrofoam bust was new to me for sure! It just goes to show you there's always a new twist to be made on one of your ideas, you just have to start twisting your mind a bit!

WONDERCON was a WONDER!

I had a great time exhibiting at WONDERCON 2012! it was awesome seeing so many friends and artists and self-publishers all under one roof!

I made some sales, drew loads of crayon sketches for fans, and hopefully Made some new ones too! I split the table with buddy self-publisher Javier Hernandez and though we had a giant wall obscuring our area slightly, I came to appreciate that wall for giving us a chance to have a more intimate location to talk with everybody, and honestly, that's really what exhibiting is all about!

Best thing about Making your own comics, is you Make your own comics!

I'm adding acrylic accents to my Death's Head Transmission 80 pg comic, and I'm really happy with the result! One of the advantages of Making and selling your own books is you can add that extra personal touch to your work. That's one thing that is much more problematic when using a distributor. Making your own stuff and getting it out to people Rocks!

Shifting gears...

I'm currently finishing up THE DEATH'S HEAD TRANSMISSION, but shifted gears the other day and did some painting... and it was really enjoyable! Sometimes taking a break from one project to work on another is just what the doctor ordered to keep one's creative energies going strong! Just something to keep in mind the next time your creative "fires" start to wane!

DEATH'S HEAD TRANSMISSION preparing to TRANSMIT!

Here's a couple more pages of the graphic novel I'm working on. I'm in the scripting phase, (using the Marvel method, I illustrated the story first and am scripting last) I'm having a blast and am just hoping that "Blast" is transmitted to the audience! Boom!

Ringin' in the New Year makin' my comics...

So, it's farewell to 2011 and welcome 2012! After staying up 'till 12am Jan 1st and toasting the new year with some sparkling apple cider, I spent the first few hours of 2012... you guessed it, working on my comics! And to prove it to ya, here's a page from THE DEATH'S HEAD TRANSMISSION! Happy New Year Everybody! Thanks for checking out my blog and podcast and videos this past year, and I hope you get a kick out of what's to come!
