Mini Comic Freebee number 2!

Just finished dropping off DOOM TOWN 2 the second Minicomic Freebee I've done so far.  This time around I left some at a tattoo parlor, toy store, as well as the regular comic shops around town.  It felt good driving around town, to areas I don't usually frequent to leave my work.  There's a sense of satisfaction and accomplishment in this whole minicomic freebee process that is hard to describe, It's not the same as selling my work, but it feels ... right, for me now at this time.  Sometimes, as artists we have to follow our muse, to the odd, and apparently impractical places she may take us.  Who knows, maybe that's just where we need to be!

MiniComics Freebee!

It's good to go back to one's roots every now and again.  For me that means making a Mini comic Freebee!  I made an 8 page mini and ran off a bunch of copies this weekend.  I kept the costs and labor low, (ran off like 100 copies for under 10 bucks)  and now when I'm out if I see an appropriate place: coffee house, comic store, gas station, record store etc... I can ask to leave a stack.  It's cool to make work and not be concerned with selling it, finding an audience, or a market.   My only consideration is my own conscience.  I say give it a try if you can, heck you might learn something about making comics, and your own Art!

Here's a peak at some projects I finished up 2012 working on...

Pegheads, sketchcards, Mega Coloring books... all exciting projects I rounded out this last year making... Making art is fun, satisfying and really brings a balance to my life.  And I'm glad I can share it with you, Oh, and Happy New Year!

These are my hand painted/colored supermonster pegheads.  I also made original sketch cards of each peghead AND printed all of them together to make a mini coloring book! Utilize every opportunity when it comes to your Art!

Here's a shot of the pages to my latest comic, NO-BRAINER THE LIVING CADAVER! it's a magazine size 24 page comic printed on heavy paperstock with a faux 3-D back cover!  I had a blast doing this one!

And this is a shot of the Biggest Coloring book I've done to date!  11" by 17" MONSTERAMA BATTLEMANIA!  And get this, it stars all those peghead characters I made in that first pic!

And Here's an original painted sketch Back cover I did for a copy of MONSTERAMA BATTLEMANIA that a buddy received for the holidays!

That's how I rounded out 2012.  Now let's see how I round in 2013!

Sneak Peak at my upcoming New Year FlashToon!

Nothing like making a Mini to grow some hair on your chest!

If you're a dude that is, If your a lady it'll make the hair on your head full bodied and flowing! Apologies, just being silly! But seriously, I just finished making a mini-comic for the Monster Mini Challenge put on by Marshall Camplex, and it was really fun! We all made minis and then mailed them to each other. I first started making my own minis years and years ago, the first one being when I was like 7 yrs old maybe. So I really feel a connection to it. It reminds me why I'm an artist, and why I do what I do. So, if you haven't recently, and you have the time... Make a mini and give it a home!

Boxing up the Zombieman Zero Painted Box Edition!

Yay! I sold out of my ZombieMan Zero Painted Box Edition! I did 4 editions this time around, and painted up some really cool Boxes! I got the idea of doing a boxed edition from buying Javier Hernandez's COMACON limited boxed edition back in November. And it still sits proudly on my shelf... Me and Jav have had long conversations about comics, makin' comics, marketing comics, merchandising comics, heck, I think I'll give him a call today! Custom painting the boxes added more labor but also a great opportunity to really personalize the work for people...
Here's the pics of my illustrated Zombieman Zero boxed editions. Final Verdict for this project: Win!

Character Portraits...

Sometimes you have to let loose.  It's good for you and good for your art.  I'm lettin' loose by doing large (for me that is!) 18" by 24" painted portraits of some of my comic characters.  I'm not focusing on reproduction, or formatting or how I would sell them, I'm just focused on making these portraits look the way I want them to look.  And I'm digging the way they're turning out.  Like I said, it's good to let loose and sometimes it's good to be selfish and do your art for yourself!  Heck, you deserve it!

This one's not quite ready to come out of the oven, but I can smell it bakin! YUM!
